Cascades Caverns

I had previously visited this cave in 1974. At that time I saw a cave that was easily accessed, well lit, quite impressive. Even though the cave flooded many times the staff maintained it in good condition.

Today I was very disappointed. The cave is no longer easy to access and well lit. The feeling I got is that over the years the cave has not been maintained. The entry area and steps have been damage and not repaired. The lighting is so poor now that they provide flash lights so that we could safely walk through the cave. The final loss was the apparence of the Cathedral Room. I returned to this cave mainly due to this beautiful room and now it is no longer beautiful.

The greatest disappointment was the condition of the Cathedral Room. In 1974 there was a beautiful lake and waterfall. The lake is no longer beautiful to see, the waterfall is just a trickle, and the lighting is very poor.

I would not recommend visiting this cavern.

As expected, these two formations have not gotten any closer together in the past 46 years.

The Cathedral Room:   This used to have a beautiful water fall and lake.
Now the waterfall is just a trickle, the lake is at least 6 ft lower the lighting is very poor.

Cave Without a Name

In 1974 I visited this cave and found it to be a very nice place. It was a private cave and the owner did a very good job of keeping the cave in a natural state, not like many of the commercialized caves where thay are more concerned about ease of access than showing the real cave. In the Cave Without a Name rather that poor concrete paths and cutting the cave to allow better commercial access, they used gravel to make level paths and chose trails where assess was already available. The cave was nicely lit.

Since 1974 the cave has retained the earlier feeling of the natural state. Some work has been done to make the trails easier to walk on in several places but this was completed with care. The lighting has been updated to lighting that is less damaging to the environment and therefor more light can remain on. I enjoyed this visit as much as I did my previous visit.
